THE 2024 INTERNSHIP PROGRAM ON SOCIOECONOMIC MAPPING IN BAGEK KEMBAR MANGROVE ECOTOURISM, WEST LOMBOK, INDONESIA

Background:

This Internship Program aims to support the ongoing socioeconomic mapping activities within the Bagek Kembar mangrove ecotourism area in West Lombok, Indonesia. Utilizing structured methodologies, interns will engage in the collection of both primary and secondary data, as well as the analysis of relevant measurement parameters.

Objectives:

  1. To gather primary and secondary data concerning the socioeconomic profile of communities surrounding the mangrove area.
  2. To analyze micro variables such as community profiles, livelihood profiles, income, and standard of living.
  3. To assist in mapping poverty and categorizing community living standards based on established methodologies.

Methodology:

Data Collection Methods:

  1. Questionnaire: Interns will employ questionnaires to collect qualitative and quantitative data from respondents.
  2. Interviews: Interns will conduct interviews with relevant parties such as community members, mangrove management groups, governmental bodies, and community leaders.

Types of Data:

  1. Primary Data: Surveys will be conducted through purposive sampling among community members.
  2. Secondary Data: Information will be gathered from published materials by relevant agencies and other direct sources related to plantation development activities.

Parameter Measurement For Micro Variables:

  1. Community Profile: Demographic characteristics including gender, age, education level, household size, income sources, and land management status.
  2. Livelihood Profile: Primary and secondary livelihood activities with parameters such as production, cost of goods sold, profit/loss, break-even point (BEP), internal rate of return (IRR), net present value (NPV), profitability index (PI), return on investment (ROI), and payback period (PBP).
  3. Income: Measurement of net income received by communities from livelihood activities, including analysis of income structure and sources.
  4. Standard of Living: Classification of community poverty levels based on established models, considering basic needs encompassing both food and non-food items.

Expectations from Interns:

Interns are expected to fund their participation and contribute their expertise and knowledge to the project. They will play a crucial role in data collection, analysis, and interpretation under the guidance of project supervisors.

Duration:

The internship program will run annually from June to July to enable the collection of time-series data.

 Intern Requirements:

  1. Enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program in social sciences, economics, environmental studies, or related fields.
  2. Demonstrates a strong interest in socioeconomic research, community development, and environmental conservation.
  3. Possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  4. Can work independently and collaboratively in diverse team settings.
  5. Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools is desirable but not mandatory.

Included: 

  1. Meals: Daily meals to ensure participants are well-fed throughout the program.

Excluded: 

  1. Personal Expenses: Any additional expenses for personal purchases or activities outside the itinerary.
  2. Travel Insurance: Participants must arrange their travel insurance coverage.
  3. Additional Transportation: Transportation for personal excursions outside scheduled activities is not provided.
  4. Accommodation: Participants are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.
  5. Visa Fees: Participants are responsible for any visa fees or required documentation for entry into Indonesia.
  6. Medical Expenses: Any medical expenses during the program are the responsibility of the participant.
  7. Lost or Damaged Equipment: Participants are liable for any lost or damaged equipment provided during the program.
  8. Incidental Expenses: Any additional incidental expenses not explicitly mentioned are excluded.

Interview Sessions:

The organization may conduct interview sessions with participants, if necessary, to ensure suitability and alignment with program objectives.

Contract Signing:

Participants will receive a contract during the program, which must be signed and returned to us promptly.
